Removals to Australia

Planning removals to Australia? It’s one of the longest moves you can make — and one of the most rewarding. From our depot in Surrey to your new front door in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Brisbane, we handle the distance, the paperwork and Australia’s famously strict biosecurity rules, so your household arrives cleared and intact.

What's Included in Our Australia Removals Service

A move to Australia means planning around some of the longest transit times in international shipping. It also means navigating quarantine and biosecurity rules that are far stricter than most other countries. Our process accounts for both – we pack to Australian inspection standards and schedule everything so your belongings are waiting when you’re ready for them.

How Your Move to Australia Works

A tried-and-tested process, run by our own team in Surrey and Britannia’s agents in Australia.

Survey & Biosecurity Briefing

We survey your Surrey home, in person or by video, and talk you through what Australian biosecurity looks for — soil, plant or food traces, untreated wood — so there are no surprises when your container is inspected on arrival.

Packing to Australian Standards

Our own crew cleans and packs the items quarantine scrutinises most — garden tools, outdoor furniture, camping gear, bikes — and inventories and barcodes everything to Australian inspection standards.

Shipping & Pre-Clearance

Your container sails for your Australian port, one of the longest routes we run, and with your paperwork completed correctly, customs and quarantine clearance can begin before you land.

Delivery Down Under

Our Britannia partner in Australia delivers to your door in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane or beyond, unpacks room by room, and removes all the wrapping and cartons.

Why Britannia Sandersteads for Australia

Every move to Australia we run is handled by the same family firm from start to finish. Britannia Sandersteads has been family-run in Surrey since 1972, is part of the Britannia Cooperative, a BAR member and a National Quality Award winner in 2023 and 2024, and we crew every job with our own full-time staff. It’s one strand of our wider international removals from Surrey.

Can my goods be cleared before I arrive in Australia?
Yes – this is one of the advantages of moving to Australia. Provided all your documentation is completed and submitted correctly, customs and quarantine clearance can begin before you land. We handle the paperwork to make this happen.
Anything organic or that’s been outdoors – garden tools with soil, wooden furniture (particularly outdoor), wicker items, and camping equipment. We clean and prepare these items during packing to reduce the risk, but some may still be inspected on arrival.
From your initial survey to receiving your belongings in Australia, expect around 16-22 weeks for groupage or 14-18 weeks for sole use. We recommend starting the process at least four months before your planned departure.

Yes. Australia sailings run to a schedule, and your move-out date won’t always match it. If you’re ready first, your packed and inventoried goods wait in our containerised storage at our Godstone depot — flexible terms, no long-term tie-in — and go onto the container once the sailing’s confirmed.

The main factors are your volume, whether you take a sole-use container or share a groupage one, your packing level, any biosecurity cleaning or treatment your goods need, storage before shipping, and access at both ends. Every quote comes from a survey of your actual home, not a flat rate.

Australian biosecurity restricts anything that could carry pests or disease — food, seeds, plants and soil, and some untreated wood, wicker or animal products. We’ll flag anything questionable at your survey; when in doubt, leave it out and check the current rules with Australian biosecurity.
