Since Brexit, your household goods clear Dutch customs on arrival. We prepare the detailed inventory the process depends on and advise on the documents involved. The exact requirements vary with your circumstances and can change over time, so for anything specific the Dutch customs authority — the Douane — is the definitive source. We won’t guess on your behalf.
Access at the Dutch end
Many Dutch canal houses and older apartments — especially in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Leiden — have staircases far too narrow to carry furniture up. The routine fix is an external furniture lift that hoists items through an upper window or balcony, but it needs booking ahead. Tell us the floor, lift and street access early and our Dutch partners arrange it.
Storage before shipping
Dutch completion dates and available move-in dates rarely fall on the same day. Rather than rush it, we can hold your belongings in our own containerised storage at Godstone before they cross the Channel — no minimum term — and our Netherlands partners can keep them at the far end until your new place is ready.

How long does a move to the Netherlands take?
It’s one of the shorter European routes — a road crossing and a short drive rather than weeks at sea. Exact timing depends on your destination, the service (dedicated or part-load) and our schedule, so we confirm realistic dates at survey. On a shared load, delivery is a window rather than a fixed day.
How does the quote process work?
We start with a free video or in-home survey; seeing the volume and access is what makes a Netherlands quote accurate. You then get it in writing and itemised — crew, vehicle, packing, the Channel crossing, customs and any storage — with nothing hidden to surface later.
Do you pack for me, or do I pack myself?
However you like: the full pack, a part pack for the breakables and awkward pieces, or just our materials. Anything fragile is export-wrapped for the road-and-Channel trip, with extra protection for pieces going up a canal-house hoist.
Can you deliver to a canal house or an upper-floor apartment?
Yes — it’s one of the most common Dutch scenarios. Where staircases are too narrow, our Dutch partners use an external furniture lift to hoist items through an upper window or balcony. Flag the property’s floor, lift and street access at survey so it’s arranged in advance.
What about customs and paperwork for a move to the Netherlands?

Is my move insured in transit?
Your goods travel under goods-in-transit cover, not your UK home contents. Antiques, art or a piano are best listed and valued separately so they’re properly covered for the crossing — we go through the options when we quote.
Can you store my belongings before shipping?
Yes. If your Dutch dates slip, we store your things in our own containers at Godstone before they cross, and our partners can hold them in the Netherlands until your home’s ready. No minimum stay either way.
