Storage Hacks to Maximise Small Packing Spaces
If you’re moving your items into storage, you’ll need to be as organised and prepared as possible in order to maximise the storage space available to you.
The team at Britannia Sandersteads have put together our top tips on how to be storage savvy, so you can get the most out of your storage.
Vacuum seal
The most obvious choice is to vacuum pack all your clothes. Simply pack your items of clothing into the bag, place the vacuum nozzle in the hole and leave it there until all the air is extracted from the bag. This will shrink the size down by a considerable amount.
Rolling method
Rolling each item of clothing, rather than laying them down flat, will help maximise space and will give you the room to pack more of your clothes. The only downside is your clothes could crease more, so be prepared to give them a quick iron.
Pillow cases
Pillow cases are likely to get misplaced when you’re in the middle of moving things into storage. Filling them with a few belongings is a good way to prevent completely losing them altogether, and helps you utilise your items for travel in the best way to. Another good example of this is stuffing shoes with pairs of socks, or smaller items such as thin, lightweight scarves.
Plates and mirrors
Plates and mirrors are two very fragile and delicate items to move and store. The best way to transport them is to store them upright in a vertical position; this way they are less likely to break.
Alternative to boxes
Rather than using moving boxes, try filling things you already have, such as suitcases, laundry baskets and empty bins with your belongings. This will cut down on the amount of space available in your storage unit, as you won’t need to use as many moving boxes.
Rugs
If you’re putting any rugs into storage you should consider having them professionally cleaned beforehand. Not only will they come back nice and clean, they’ll also be wrapped up, ready to be stored.
Items for sale
If you have items that you no longer need or use, rather than just putting them into storage and forgetting about them, get rid of them. If they hold any value you could sell them on eBay. This way, you can make a profit and free your storage space up some more.
